CELEBRATE YOUR WINS OF 2019!

Only two days until 2020! As we shift gears towards the New Year, it's important to take some time to acknowledge and celebrate the wins and accomplishments of 2019. Temptation is high to already look forward and set intentions for the year ahead.

Slow down....and take 10-15 minutes to look back to your year. To do so, we have listed some questions to help you look back at your year to celebrate your wins, show gratitude to those who supported you in achieving them and review your own contributions.

2019 ACHIEVEMENTS AND LEARNINGS

Ask yourself :

  • What have I achieved?

  • Which challenges or obstacles did I overcome?

  • What did I learn or improve?

  • Which expertise did I gain?

  • What am I proud about?

Think about how you achieved these successes and achievements. Are there steps or strategies you used that could be employed when pursuing future goals? Or did you sacrifice so much in terms of time and resources that you should rethink your approach to a similar objective in future?

Take a moment to give yourself a pat on the back for a job well done. When we acknowledge the things we accomplished or struggles we overcame, it gives us momentum to go into 2020 with energy, courage and drive!

ACKNOWLEDGE THOSE WHO HELPED YOU

Secondly, think about those who helped you achieve your goals. As the saying goes, "no man is an island". Acknowledge all people who helped you, including those who provided valuable encouragement when you needed it, those who stepped in to help you solve a problem, who listened to your ideas and offered suggestions that improved them, etc. Make sure that you acknowledge how they helped you and thank them sincerely.

ASSESS THE SUPPORT YOU GAVE TO OTHERS

Now, take a closer look to what you gave this year and to whom. Success in life and in the job is all about give and take. Did you offer support to your peers or also to more junior people? Was your help limited to your direct team or the wider organization? Did you nurture your connections? Consider what you will do differently in 2020.

LESSONS FROM FAILED OR UNCOMPLETED GOALS

Finally, dive into the goals you haven't achieved in 2019. Ask yourself the following questions:

  • What goals were abandoned or forgotten?

  • Which projects were not started or completed?

  • Which goals or projects did I attempt but could not complete?

  • If I missed an opportunity, why?

Take some time to think about what lessons these failed goals and uncompleted projects could teach you.

Take the time over the 2 coming days to reflect on your accomplishments and wins of 2019 and celebrate them! Then reflect on what you want to take further with you in 2020, what you want to stop and what you want to start doing.

In a few days, you’ll start writing a new book of 366 pages…be intentional about it!
